Our tournament in February is one of the biggest events for our school and students. We had our first one in 1999 and they have consistently been the largest Kung Fu tournaments in Austin. We have more people compete at this tournament (usually 200 or more) than show up to a worldwide "open" tournament for multiple styles and schools. Our tournament is open to only Shaolin-Do students and yet it's the biggest. I have been told over and over again from tournament veterans that our tournament is the most efficient and well-run they have ever seen. I take personal pride in that fact and do everything in my power to deliver the same great experience every year. At the end of the day there are, of course, winners and losers. We bring everybody back together again in the evening DEMO. This event gets better every year and has families, men, women, kids, pre-k, Masters, just about everybody, demonstrate something. It will amaze you but also make you proud to be involved with our school.
Shaolin-Do is not a spectator sport, it is a participatory sport. As a student you didn't set out to be more like everybody else around you. You set out to be something more. That is often a painful process. It requires facing fears, like getting up to do a form or spar in a tournament. If you respect and hope to have the skill your teachers have someday, then you must walk the path they have walked and that path has lots of tournament in it. There is no escaping this fact. You will never reach your potential without meeting this fear and beating it. You'll find that like most fears, it was nothing at all.
I want to volunteer! Please donate your time (and if you have a pick up, your driving) to help. We need people to help with everything - registration, timekeeping and scorekeeping, tee shirt sales, etc.... It's an all day event so if you can donate a couple of hours or more, it will make a world of difference to the efficiency of the day! Click the volunteer button below to email Master Joe. Thanks in advance! volunteer
