Our Shaolin-Do community is getting more and more involved in helping others.
Clothes For Austin's Homeless
We have ongoing clothing collection boxes for Austin's homeless so if you are cleaning out the closets please consider bringing in clean, gently used clothing, coats and shoes to donate. Black Belt students Debbie Tam and Arval Headrich collect them every few weeks and distribute them downtown.
Knit or Crochet for Charity
1st Sunday of Every Month 11-1 at the North School. If you crochet or knit and would like to create items to donate to charity in a fun group while discussing proactive ideas - we are forming a Close-Knit Group at the north Austin location. We meet once a month to work together and combine our items to mail to the appropriate charities. (Shawls and blankets for Alzheimers, Blankets, booties an hats for needy babies, hats and scarves for the homeless, whatever group you'd like to create for!) message Master Sheryl to get involved. And if you can't knit or crochet but want to learn how to be part of the group, or want to get involved in collecting yarn, mailing items, there's room for you!
You don't have to be a student of kung fu or tai chi, friends and family are welcome to join in!
This is a mini golf "tournament" that takes place at Peter Pan Golf Course in the Spring to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. We have participated the last two years and our numbers are growing. It is huge fun and for a wonderful cause. We hope to get a friendly competition between other schools going to raise more money for the event. (Trust me - there's NO competing at all - it's just fun. Food and drink are provided).
Now forming - we can put money toward tuition or gear for students who run into a bad spell - lost their job, sudden medical bills, etc... You can specify someone in particular whom you know needs help or just donate for those who approach only Master Joseph and myself about a hardship. We help as often as we can but at a cost to the school. You can help keep the school strong while helping a fellow student in need. Donate Here in increments of $20, and email if it's to go to a particular person.
