Seniors Can Benefit The Most From Tai Chi

Here is the truth about aging. Everything hurts more! It’s the “couch spiral”. The more your body hurts the less you want to move, which makes everything hurt even more.

How about a solution that doesn’t involve pain? In Tai Chi you slowly move from one position to another in a state of mindfulness. This aligns your posture and the energy pathways of the body and relaxes you while increasing your energy and vitality. It is an activity you can continue to do into your advanced years. Is it possible to feel more relaxed while getting stronger inside and out? The answer is ABSOLUTELY! There are more than 500 medical studies that show the undeniable health benefits of Tai Chi. It increases muscle strength and bone density while also reducing arthritis pain, blood pressure and cognitive decline. It is one of the world’s best mind-body practices.

Worried about whether you can do this activity? If you can stand and walk you can practice Tai Chi. In our school we have a special beginner senior class starting April 4th at 11AM at a special lower rate. This once a week class will teach you the Tai Chi movements, have you practice energizing breath training called Chi Kung and include a short meditation practice. Plus you will get video and written resources to help you practice it at home.

The class is taught by 7th degree black belt Master Sheryl Schaefer. She has been teaching these arts for 30 years and is an amazing instructor. She is known for bringing clarity to her instruction and has a special ability to make difficult things easy to grasp. She has created a strong and supportive senior community at our school. These people have found a new community of friends and say our school is officially their new “happy place”.

Try a free first class with our senior beginner students on April 4th at 11AM.

We Are The

Best In Austin

What happens when a neuroscientist and physiologist from UT are also masters of Tai Chi and own a school? That school becomes the BEST IN AUSTIN!

I have found a truly wonderful and supportive community of people. I've made new friends that are also teachers and training partners. It's good exercise (you will sweat doing some of the forms) and I always feel better at the end of class than I did at the beginning. Joining the Austin Shaolin-Do family is one of the best decisions I've ever made for myself. I hope that you'll feel the same after you join.

Having found Master Joe and Master Sheryl, owners of the Austin Kung Fu and Tai Chi School, I've experienced how they literally put their heart and soul into teaching and making their school a welcoming environment for persons of all ages. If nothing else, the comradery, commitment, and longevity of their students says more about who Master Joe and Sheryl are than any review could.

The school is a community where we are motivated mentally and physically and can grow and learn together. Master Joe and Master Sheryl provide a supportive and caring environment where students can thrive and be their best selves. The tai chi program provides endless learning opportunities that continue for a lifetime.
