Separate Senior Tai Ci Program

I started my “senior” tai chi journey to support my sister’s long time interest in the discipline. In the past three years I have learned the many benefits of practicing tai chi. Not only have my balance and core strength improved, my bone density numbers have also increased, reversing the trend my doctor and I were seeing. Tai chi has added an unexpected dimension to my retirement…mental clarity and focus, new friends and lots of fun!
An Inspirational Story
I came to the Austin Shaolin-Do Kung Fu and Tail Chi Martial Arts School using a walker to get around. Had been using the walker for four months, and I needed something more than the physical rehabilitation program that I was getting at the time. My son had been practicing Kung Fu at the school and he told me about a group of seniors there who practiced Tai Chi with the name, the “Tai Chi Silver Cranes”. I’m 80-years-old, but I’ve practiced Tai Chi in the past, so I decided to check out this senior group. From the first time I came to the school on my walker, the students in the “Tai Chi Silver Cranes” welcomed me and encouraged me in every possible way. Even the other students in the main group greeted me with thumbs-up signals, smiles and friendliness. After I joined , I found that the senior group was a serious group of Tai Chi practitioners, who were eager to include me and help me learn the form. The Tai Chi Silver Cranes group are included in all the classes offered, except the classes for the most advanced students, which are special classes. They are not isolated from the rest of the Tai Chi students who are not seniors.
Master Joe and Master Sheryl are totally dedicated to their students and their program. They give 100% of themselves 100% of the time to provide an excellent training program for students from 4-years-old to 80-years-old. I’m an example and result of their excellent teaching. They gave me their personal attention and dedication from the very day that I arrived. That means they started with me where I was at the time. I could not stand up for more than 10 minutes without needing to sit down! Today, I have learned the 24 form for Tai Chi and I’m working to perfect it. I’m also beginning the practice of the Tai Chi Sword and the beginning of the Tai Chi Pa-kua form.

I can’t believe I’m coming up on 9 years studying martial arts with my son and daughter at Austin Kung Fu & Tai Chi! My only regret is not starting my journey much earlier in life. You will fit in if you choose to join this school. All you have to do is take that first step.

Love both the Kung Fu and the Tai Chi classes. Instructors are great and also know how to teach and keep young students motivated! Granddaugher loves her classes and excels by competing in tournaments at 5 yrs old . Anyone having problems with focus, memory or balance can really benefit from these classes. Small group breakouts in each class enable students to learn at their own pace and level.
