Why is everyone talking about Tai Chi? It is very low impact but lowers blood pressure, increases balance, reduces stress and tension, increases flexibility and leads to feelings of peacefulness. It you can stand and walk you can learn and do Tai Chi. Doctors recommend it for rehab from injury, improving balance & leg strength in seniors, for helping adults and teens with stress, anxiety, and ADHD.

Why is everyone talking about the Tai Chi classes at Austin Kung Fu & Tai Chi? Master Joe, & Master Sheryl, along with their team of instructors, are truly dedicated to creating a supportive, friendly and relaxing atmosphere for learning, and it shows.

Our senior Tai Chi program is now online & in-person

Tai Chi and Chi Kung (breathing exercises) have been shown in study after study to raise quality of life. Tai Chi increases calmness, peacefulness and relaxation.

Improves Balance & Flexibility

All the studies show that Tai Chi is better for increasing balance than physical therapy and other balance training methods. Overall flexibility increases through complete relaxation.

Increases Mental Sharpness

The most powerful part of learning Tai Chi just might be the very special impact it has on mental clarity and sharpness. As people age, we often experience “cognitive decline”. Tai Chi has been shown to slow and even reverse this process.

Fun To Learn

You might not know that there are dozens of Tai Chi forms to learn. This keeps you interested and learning new things for years to come. This becomes your secret longevity strategy.

Supportive Friends

As you learn these fascinating ancient movements, you will be surrounded by new friends that are on the same journey.

Nothing has a better impact on your life than the pride of accomplishment. Quality of life comes from challenges met.

Why we are different

Master Joe and Master Sheryl Schaefer have dedicated over 30 years to teaching Tai Chi. Everyone in their school knows that teaching and impacting lives is way more important to them than profit. They teach and lead from the heart and that is evident in every class.

They are one of the only programs with:

  • Unlimited attendance
  • No Contracts
  • No Increasing Priced Programs
  • Multiple instructors in every class.
  • Separate senior program

Every single scientific study has shown Tai Chi to be extremely healthy and restorative.  It has the ultimate combination of physical and mental benefits for adults of any age.

Separate Senior Tai Ci Program

Millions and Millions of seniors worldwide practice Tai Chi every morning as a way to ease aches and pain, maintain flexibility, increase balance, strengthen the lower body and increase feelings of relaxation and peacefulness.

I started my “senior” tai chi journey to support my sister’s long time interest in the discipline. In the past three years I have learned the many benefits of practicing tai chi. Not only have my balance and core strength improved, my bone density numbers have also increased, reversing the trend my doctor and I were seeing. Tai chi has added an unexpected dimension to my retirement…mental clarity and focus, new friends and lots of fun!

An Inspirational Story

I came to the Austin Shaolin-Do Kung Fu and Tail Chi Martial Arts School using a walker to get around.  Had been using the walker for four months, and I needed something more than the physical rehabilitation program that I was getting at the time.  My son had been practicing Kung Fu at the school and he told me about a group of seniors there who practiced Tai Chi with the name, the “Tai Chi Silver Cranes”.  I’m 80-years-old, but I’ve practiced Tai Chi in the past, so I decided to check out this senior group.  From the first time I came to the school on my walker, the students in the “Tai Chi Silver Cranes” welcomed me and encouraged me in every possible way.  Even the other students in the main group greeted me with thumbs-up signals, smiles and friendliness.  After I joined , I found that the senior group was a serious group of Tai Chi practitioners, who were eager to include me and help me learn the form.  The Tai Chi Silver Cranes group are included in all the classes offered, except the classes for the most advanced students, which are special classes. They are not isolated from the rest of the Tai Chi students who are not seniors.

Master Joe and Master Sheryl are totally dedicated to their students and their program. They give 100% of themselves 100% of the time to provide an excellent training program for students from 4-years-old to 80-years-old.   I’m an example and result of their excellent teaching.  They gave me their personal attention and dedication from the very day that I arrived. That means they started with me where I was at the time.  I could not stand up for more than 10 minutes without needing to sit down!  Today, I have learned the 24 form for Tai Chi and I’m working to perfect it. I’m also beginning the practice of the Tai Chi Sword and the beginning of  the Tai Chi Pa-kua form.

I have found a truly wonderful and supportive community of people. I’ve made new friends that are also teachers and training partners. It’s good exercise and I always feel better at the end of class than I did at the beginning. Joining the Austin Shaolin-Do family is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for myself. I hope that you’ll feel the same after you join

I can’t believe I’m coming up on 9 years studying martial arts with my son and daughter at Austin Kung Fu & Tai Chi! My only regret is not starting my journey much earlier in life. You will fit in if you choose to join this school. All you have to do is take that first step.

Kung Fu Family

My 9 yo son has been studying kung fu here for several years. He has grown a lot in that time, and is focused and dedicated in class. We appreciate the leadership here for their consistent warmth and guidance!

Love both the Kung Fu and the Tai Chi classes. Instructors are great and also know how to teach and keep young students motivated! Granddaugher loves her classes and excels by competing in tournaments at 5 yrs old . Anyone having problems with focus, memory or balance can really benefit from these classes. Small group breakouts in each class enable students to learn at their own pace and level.
