The most remarkable part of the seminar for me was the second Open Focus exercise called
“dissolving pain.” As the exercise progressed, the pain began to subside. I remember I kept trying to “find” it
again during the exercise, because, well, it couldn’t just be…. gone! The weight and pressure was
gone. It has been a few days since the Balance and Breath seminar, and the pain-pressure-weight in that area is still gone.

From Stress To Peace

Joe and Sheryl Schaefer were in crisis mode in 2002 after the tech-crash decimated the membership for their 9 martial art schools. Teaching 35 classes per week and driving to teach at three separate locations was taking its toll. A life of high stress and workaholic nature were taking its toll. In 2004 Master Joe discovered an amazing yet little known technique called Open Focus. It was being taught at a small research center in New Jersey. He immediately recognized the similarities to Tai Chi, Chi Kung and meditation, He traveled to study Open Focus and become certified as an Open Focus trainer and coach with the 5 Channel NeuroSynchrony Feedback Machine.

15 Years Later

Since that day in 2004, Master Joe and Master Sheryl Schaefer have incorporated Open Focus practice into their own life and merged the concepts into Tai Chi instruction. Master Joe eliminated his own high blood pressure, reduced his stress and anxiety and overcame many of his life-long ADD struggles. Both Master Joe’s and Master Sheryl’s Tai Chi and Chi Kung practice deepened incredibly as a result of Open Focus attentional training.

During the last 15 years, concepts of mindfulness and “Living In The Moment” have become common place ideas. However, there has yet to be a simplified and dependable method for achieving these lofty goals. Masters Joe and Sheryl have yet to see ANYTHING that rivals Open Focus. It is simple and doesn’t conflict with any belief systems or religions. It is simply a new way of processing sensory information that changes and depressurizes your nervous system.
